Clee Hill Community Academy

I had been a reading volunteer at the school for more than two years when Mrs. Little persuaded me to apply for a community governor vacancy. I spent my working life as a lorry driver and wasn’t sure I could contribute anything as a school governor, as I had no experience in business, finance or education. But I found that was not essential, as my fellow governors have expertise in all three, and I could contribute in other ways. Certainly, reading with the children as a volunteer is more fun than having to read 200-page DfE documents as a governor, but it has been interesting to see what is involved in the administrative side. The school is a lively, happy place, and the time I spend there, as a volunteer or governor, is the best part of my week.
